The Pescadero Weekend: Part 2
As promised, I'm back with more to share from a recent weekend in Pescadero, California. If you missed Part 1, be sure to click here for the scoop on our fabulous vacation rental.I'm going to backtrack a bit, because I need to mention La Nebbia Winery:
We stopped on the way from Sacramento and were so glad we did. First of all, the wine was delicious. I highly recommend it. We were also able to pick up some tasty snacks for our weekend.
The best part, however, was the lovely woman pouring the wine. I have, of course, forgotten her name (terrible, I know), but she was full of helpful information. She gave us a map, recommended restaurants to try and pointed us in the direction of fun activities. I'm telling you: always talk to the locals. They know what's up.
The grounds were beautiful as well:
La Nebbia was the perfect place to have a little picnic before we headed south on Highway 1 to the beach house.

Next up: The Beach
Waking up in a beach house just does it for me. The wind was howling, thanks to the storm passing through, but I could hear the waves crashing on the rocks below. Such a beautiful sound.
So how did we spend our morning, you ask? Oh, we had mimosas and bird watched.
Pelicans en masse:
Chatty seagulls scoping out the scene:
You know...the usual.
Then we decided to bundle up and hit the beach.
Here's mom in her cute red coat:
Yeah...it was a bit chilly.
I know. Gnarly, right? They're called goose barnacles.
Look at this cute little guy:
You can't really tell from the pictures, but there were hundreds of these tiny jelly fish scattered across the beach:
Between the jelly fish, the rocks and the crazy tides, I'm guessing people don't swim here all that often. It's a perfect beach for tide pooling, though.
----------
After the beach, we headed to Half Moon Bay to grab a bite to eat and hit the shops. If you're ever in the area and need a little lot of kitsch in your life, be sure to stop at Cameron's Restaurant, Pub, Inn, RV Park & Campground. No, I'm not kidding. It really is all of those things. We were only worried about the restaurant and pub part (they make a mean plate of fish & chips, by the way), but the establishment caters to many, many needs. My iPhone photos of the pub don't do it justice, so I suggest you visit their website to fully appreciate the level of kitsch we're talking about here.
----------
We had one more stop we wanted to make before heading back to the house that day. From our trusty map, we could tell that Pigeon Point Lighthouse was located just south of our rental on Highway 1. The fog and clouds were rolling back in, so we grabbed our coats one more time and hit the road.
The story behind Pigeon Point Lighthouse is an interesting one. Let's just say, the structure has seen better days. According to the California State Parks Foundation website, a large piece of the exterior broke off and crashed to the ground in December 2001. Yes, they use the word "crashed" on the site. Apparently that's about a 100 foot drop. It's been closed to tours ever since.
Luckily, it's still an incredibly beautiful place to visit:
The California State Parks Foundation is in the process of restoring the lighthouse to its former glory. You can learn more about the project and donate to the cause here, if you'd like. To learn more about visiting the lighthouse or staying in the adjacent hostel, click here.

I'll have one more 'Pescadero Weekend' post for you on Friday. If you like hiking and elephant seals, you'll want to stay tuned for that. If you don't, I think you may have something wrong with you.
I'm kidding!
Kind of.

Happy Wednesday, all!
